MULCH LIKE A PRO!
Make your garden beautiful in no time.
Now that the soil in your garden beds has had a chance to dry out and warm up, it’s the ideal time to spread or refresh the mulch in your garden beds. Not only does mulch give your garden beds a nice finished look, but it also has other benefits for your gardens. Spreading mulch reduces the number of weeds by inhibiting weed seed germination by blocking growth and access to sunlight as well as helps retain moisture in the soil.
- MEASURE TO MAKE SURE WEEDS CAN’T POP THROUGH
Grab your bag of mulch and read the label to determine how thick your mulch layer should be. It varies based on the type of mulch you are using. The recommended mulch thickness is usually around 2-3 inches.
- SPREAD BUT LEAVE ROOM AROUND EACH PLANT STEM
Spread your mulch around your garden. Make sure you don’t place it on top of any plants or vegetation. Be sure to leave about 1-2 inches around any plant stems so they don’t suffocate.
QUICK TIP
One cubic foot of mulch spread 3-inches thick will cover 4 square feet of space, and a 2-inch thick layer will cover 6 square feet.
IF EXISTING MULCH IS STILL THICK BUT FADED, RENEW COLOR.
If you’ve still got a lot of mulch, there’s no need to replace it just because the color isn’t as vibrant as it once was. Simply spray with Scotts Mulch Color Renewal (be sure to follow directions) and your mulch will immediately look fresh and new again.
